The expert meeting of the ninth Ordinary
Session of the COMIFAC Council of Ministers in charge of Forestry
and/or Environment of the COMIFAC countries was held at the behest of
His Excellency Emmanuel NIYONKURU, Minister of Water, Environment, Land
Planning and Urbanism of the Republic of Burundi, Acting President of
the Central African Forests Commission (COMIFAC).

Kigali-Rwanda: 22 November 2016 - Bioversity International has officially joined the Congo Basin Forests Partnership (CBFP).Bioversity is a global
research-for-development organization and member of the CGIAR
Consortium. The organization delivers scientific evidence, management
practices and policy options to use and safeguard agricultural and tree
biodiversity for sustainable global food and nutrition security.

The EU Facilitator of CBFP has addressed a new letter to all CBFP
Partners, setting out the Facilitation’s perspectives and proposals for
the 16th Meeting of Parties, scheduled to take place in Kigali, Rwanda on 21-26 November 2016. Among other things, the Facilitation proposes an update of the CBFP Cooperation Framework to be adopted at Kigali.

Marrakech / Songdo, 21 Nov 2016 The
Conference of Parties (COP) has issued its latest guidance to the Green
Climate Fund (GCF) at its 22nd meeting in Marrakech, Morocco. The
decision of the COP sets out the requests from the governments that are
Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
(UNFCCC), and that will guide the Fund over the coming year.

23 November 2016, Kigali, Rwanda
– The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)
today launched a new publication that will help countries in Africa and
elsewhere trace timber from forest to consumer as part of wider efforts
to crack down on illegal logging and promote the legal timber trade.

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) has reached a new milestone today with the
approval of USD 745 million in funding proposals at its fourteenth
meeting. The 10 projects and programmes have a total value of USD 2.6
billion, and will help 27 countries across the globe to reduce their
emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change.

A new business tool designed to combat bribery has just been published. ISO 37001is
actually the first international anti-bribery management system
standard built to assist organizations in fighting bribery risk both
within their own operations and at all levels of their global value
chains. By providing a generally flexible framework intended to prevent,
detect and address bribery-related issues, ISO 37001 will enable
organizations to mitigate the risks and costs related to this scourge.

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) today
announced the approval of its first grants in support of processes to
develop National Adaptation Plans (NAPs).
Under the GCF's Readiness and
Preparatory Support Programme, Liberia will receive USD 2.2 million with
UNDP acting as its delivery partner to implement its NAPs activities,
whilst Nepal will receive a grant of USD 2.9 million via UNEP.

Indonesian timber in to the EU without carrying out the due diligence

In Central Africa, industrial forest
concessions and protected areas occupy most of the forested space while
community forests are confined to the margins. This separation ignores
the reality of land rights and overlapping uses, as well as the need for
governance involving different users of the same space. The mapping of
local land rights lays the foundation for sharing timber revenues and
the development of new economic activities involving industrial
operators and communities.

On Day 1 of COP22, the theme was ‘Africa in Action.’ Foreign Minister of
Morocco and President of COP22 Salaheddine Mezouar said in his opening
remark that the conference being held « on African soil demonstrates a
whole continent’s commitment to contributing to the global effort » to
fight climate change. He emphasized the importance of helping all
African countries fight climate change because the « sun does not ignore
a village because it is small. »

The interactive session on consideration of best practices in the
implementation of the Convention continued on Thursday morning, the
third and final day of CRIC 15, with delegates providing input on the
Secretariat report on accessibility of information on best practices
through the Scientific Knowledge Brokering Portal and the Capacity
Building Marketplace. Delegates then met in a contact group throughout
the remainder of the day to review the draft report of the session,
including the conclusions and recommendations.

The COP22 President highlighted the positive energy from the opening
ceremony earlier in the morning that marked the transition from COP21
Presidency to COP22 Presidency and thanked outgoing COP21 President
Segolene Royal for all of her collaboration over the past year in
preparation for COP22.

The Sahara Conservation Fund (SCF) is a
young and dynamic NGO established in 2004 to address the extinction
crisis facing the wildlife of the Sahara and neighbouring Sahelian
grasslands of Africa. SCF focuses on the conservation of threatened
species and their habitats. Projects include the establishment and
management of protected areas, the reintroduction of lost species, and
hands-on training of African professionals through applied research,
wildlife survey and monitoring.
The Project Finance and Administrative
Officer, AAI is an integral member of the African Apes Initiative (AAI
projects) team, providing financial and administration support
particularly in program logistics and efficient project administration.
The incumbent reports to and works closely with the Technical Director
West and Central Africa and is the key linking point within the program
team and HQ Finance team to understand, interpret and implement
financial policies and budget plans within the AAI projects. The
majority of AAI-field programs are in West and Central Africa.
Session objectives: to develop the
participants’ ability to identify viable project ideas, to teach
participants how to craft relevant projects that will appeal to
financial partners, Strengthen participants’ capacities to develop
synergies.
The World Resources Institute (WRI)
seeks a Central Africa Regional Strategy Lead to lead development of
national strategies, support work plan development, monitoring,
communication and fund-raising across WRI’s Forest Program’s priority
countries in the Congo Basin – with a particular focus on Cameroon,
Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon. Location: Kinshasa, DRC
Management and Engineering Technologies
International, Inc. (METI), in collaboration with the US Forest Service,
as a part of the US Agency for International Development’s bilateral
programs in Uganda, seeks a full-time technical advisor to provide
technical support to the National Forestry Authority of Uganda. The
technical advisor will provide strategic and technical guidance on
mapping Central Forest Reserves and other attendant technical issues
within the National Forestry Authority.
