The announcement was made on September
13, 2016 in Brussels, by the European Facilitation of the Congo Basin
Forests Partnership : Woods Hole Research Center (WHRC) is now the 84th
member of the CBFP working to improve people’s living conditions and
protect the Congo Basin’s forest resources.

At the beginning of the 1990s, the World Bank introduced
conditionalities to reform the forest concession regime in Central
Africa and continuously intervened, inter alia, in Cameroon, Congo,
Gabon and the DRC up to 2010. The reforms were designed to achieve two
immediate objectives: (i) increase the price of the resource through
competitive market procedures or, if inapplicable, through taxation,
(ii) break down the patronage system that governed the forest permits
allocation.

| GSAC NETWORK: An Alliance for large-apes in Central Africa is born
On 19 October 2016, a constituent General Assembly (AG) of the Alliance
for the conservation of great apes in Central Africa (abbreviated in
French as Alliance-ACMG) was held in Limbe. The AG was the fruit of
discussions that began in early 2016 between 6 civil society
organizations (CSOs) from 4 Central African countries (CA), actively
involved with biodiversity conservation issues in the Congo Basin. |

As already announced, five streams will be organised for the 16th annual
CBFP Meeting of Parties to be held in Kigali on 21-26 November
2016. Together with the partners that have agreed to lead the work of
the respective streams, the EU Facilitation of CBFP has identified a set
of key issues on which the work of the respective streams should

started in Cape Town, South Africa, with 200 participants convening
over the next three days to accelerate their strategic engagement with
the Fund.

(NESS), focusing on forestry crimes brought together 28 representatives
from Ecuadorean authorities including the national police, the Office of
the Attorney General, the Foreign Affairs, Defence, Agriculture,

The World Resources Institute (WRI)
seeks a Central Africa Regional Strategy Lead to lead development of
national strategies, support work plan development, monitoring,
communication and fund-raising across WRI’s Forest Program’s priority
countries in the Congo Basin – with a particular focus on Cameroon,
Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon. Location: Kinshasa, DRC
Management and Engineering Technologies
International, Inc. (METI), in collaboration with the US Forest Service,
as a part of the US Agency for International Development’s bilateral
programs in Uganda, seeks a full-time technical advisor to provide
technical support to the National Forestry Authority of Uganda. The
technical advisor will provide strategic and technical guidance on
mapping Central Forest Reserves and other attendant technical issues
within the National Forestry Authority.
For several years, Pesticide Action
Network advises GGF in awarding these grants to organizations in Africa,
Latin America, Asia and some East European countries. It is important to note that PAN is only a adviser and does not give grants. This role is exclusively for GGF. The date for the next cycle for these grants is set early December 2016.
These grants support short-term
non-degree training that enhances skills necessary for effective
conservation work and career advancement. Most training programs are
less than 6 months in duration and applicants are expected to return
their jobs with new skills that help to build capacity in their
organization. The grant covers training costs up to US$5,000.
This course is about areas dedicated
nature conservation, "protected areas": how they work and why they are
so important in maintaining the health of the environment in a fast
developing world, and in particular in Africa. It will help you
understand the challenges of conservation in Africa and how protected
areas can help to deal with it, from the local to the international
level.
This position will also ensure efficient
and effective coordination and management of logistics and support
landscape procurement to ensure good value for money. This entails the
provision to Congo Landscape Manager and staff with regular assistance
and advice in understanding, interpreting and implementing AWF and
donors policies and procedures regarding finance, assets and procurement
along with maintaining a good relationship with and timely reporting to
the headquarter and partners. The position holder directly reports to
the Finance and Administration Officer.
WWF-CAR seeks a Primate Habituation,
Research and Tourism Advisor whose major function will be to provide
technical assistance, oversight and leadership to ensure the effective
management of the Primate Habituation Programme (PHP), tourism-related
activities, and research activities in the Dzanga-Sangha Protected Areas
(DSPA), ) and transfer his/her technical and management knowledge and
experience to the DSPA staff.
WWF-CAR seeks a Principal Technical
Advisor whose major function will be the overall implementation and
supervision of its field Programme in support to the CAR Government.
They will collaborate for the management of the Dzanga-Sangha Protected
Areas (DSPA) and its broader landscape, in its aim to maintain the
biodiversity of the south-western forests of the CAR.
