The EU Facilitation of CBFP is pleased to inform you that the 17th Meeting of the Parties (MOP) of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP) will be held in Douala (Republic of Cameroon) ) from 24 to 27 octobre 2017. The meeting will be organized with the financial support of the European Union.
 



 During the second quarter of 2017, activities carried out by the Executive Secretariat of the Central African Forest Commission  (COMIFAC) focused on the  following components of its sub-regional action plan: (i) planning, monitoring and evaluation of implementation of Convergence Plan 2...

 


The FAO-EU FLEGT Programme is now accepting concept notes from government institutions, civil society, indigenous and tribal peoples, and private sector organizations in countries engaged in Voluntary Partnership Agreements (VPAs) with the European Union. Grants up to USD 110 000 are available through the Programme to support ongoing VPA processes in targeted countries.


 

TRAFFIC : New TRAFFIC Study Lifts Lid on Central Africa Ivory Markets.

Yaoundé, Cameroon, 7th September 2017—Weak governance, corruption and shifting trade dynamics are significant factors seriously undermining the control of ivory trafficking throughout five countries in Central Africa, according to a new TRAFFIC study launched today.
 

The book addresses how to conserve and restore the very rich biodiversity in Central Africa, which is the home of three of the world’s four great apes – the gorilla, chimpanzee and bonobo – forest elephants, magnificent birds and so many enchanting animals and plants.



The report describes progress made with the timber legality assurance system, institutional improvements, stakeholder engagement, communication, transparency and monitoring of the agreement.

Yaoundé, 14 July 2017. ReRaC has acknowledged the cooperation framework of CBFP partners that was updated and adopted in Kigali in November 2016 and is committed to adhere thereto and thereby promote sustainable management of forest ecosystems in the Congo Basin.

On July 31st, we celebrated World Ranger Day and honored those who put their lives on the line to protect the magnificent wildlife of Nouabalé-Ndoki National Park. The Green Climate Fund’s latest expansion of assistance to countries preparing to implement climate finance is targeting Africa and the Pacific.




Republic of Congo - Paving the way for increased and more meaningful participation of women and marginalized groups in managing forests is a requisite investment in achieving more cohesive and efficient resources governance. The way that forests are successfully managed depends on the capacity of men and women to come together and collaborate.

This is realised by carrying out field conservation and research in over 50 countries across the globe and through education and awareness-raising at our two zoos, ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, inspiring people to take conservation action.
The Master of Science (MSc) in “Managing the Science-Policy Interface on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services for Sustainable Development in West Africa - SPIBES” is a 2-year interdisciplinary course designed to provide students with broad, high-quality information and skills needed to facilitate the operation of science-policy interfaces such as the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), as a means for achieving sustainable development goals in West Africa.
 
The main aim is to design and develop a virtual and high tech-based communication platform (web site) as a viable and effective tool for showcasing conservation efforts underway in the ecosystems of the National Park of Lobéké, as well as ecosystem services­ and cultural values related thereto.
The study’s overall aim is to define priorities and develop a plan to enhance the capacities and participation of actors of the AEPHA sector of the sub-watershed of the Mayo Tsanaga river in ensuring climate change resilience of AEPHA services.
 
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is looking to fill a Regional Director position. This position requires an accomplished and credible manager with good understanding of environmental policy issues in the regional context. The Regional Director is supported by a range of experts but has the institutional responsibility to authoritatively handle a broad spectrum of subjects ranging from biodiversity and ecosystem based resource management strategies and policies to organizational management and financial planning.
