Public Private Partnership in
conservation as intervention for peace - Are PPPs in conservation an
effective intervention when it comes to peace-building? Or should we

Brussels on 27 June 2017. The European
Facilitation of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership has officially
accepted the African Community Rights Network’s (ACRN) application for
CBFP (Congo Basin Forest Partnership) membership.

In line with the commitment at the CBFP’s November 2016 Meeting of the
Parties in Kigali, the Secretariat for Environmental Assessment in
Central Africa (SEEAC) has officially joined the 97 members of the Congo
Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP).

| Paris, 27 June 2017: Today the Government of Gabon and the Central African Forest Initiative (CAFI) signed a Letter of Intent for 18 million US dollars to protect the country’s forests and accelerate the fight against climate change. |

decisions. Such was the main aim of the twenty-fifth meeting of the
Central African Working Group on Biodiversity (GTBAC 25) held in Douala
from 24 to 26 April 2017 which also provided an opportunity to take

tools have helped the COMIFAC Executive Secretariat define its needs and

Surprisingly little attention has been paid to variation among countries
in contributions to conservation. As a first step, we developed a
Megafauna Conservation Index (MCI) that assesses the spatial, ecological
and financial contributions of 152 nations towards conservation of the
world’s terrestrial megafauna. We chose megafauna because they are
particularly valuable in economic, ecological and societal terms, and
are challenging and expensive to conserve.

The Letter of Intent (LOI) between the Government of Gabon and CAFI
establishes a partnership to implement the National Investment Framework
of Gabon. The LOI is signed by Gabon Minister of Economy, Norway’s
Minister of Climate and the Environment and the Multi Partner Trust Fund
Office of UNDP. A ceremony was held in Paris on 27 June 2017, and
highlighted the ways in which the LOI will help the country deliver on
its forthcoming Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris
Agreement. |

| Imported wood flooring lost market share in the US in 2016 and US
domestic flooring manufacturers can gain an advantage says the National
Wood Flooring Association. In 2016 prices for imports increased by an
average 9.6%. Prices of Chinese engineered wood flooring increased by
more than 13% while US-made flooring prices declined 8%. China
increasingly imports hardwoods from the US to make flooring for export.

| This study reviewed the state of transparency and accountability in the
forestry sector in developing countries focusing on contributions of EU
actions and provisions on the same. The study was based on review of
literature, policies and reports on forest governance, using three
FLEGT-VPA case study countries, namely Cameroon, Ghana and Tanzania.
More than 200 million Euros have been invested into FLEGT-VPA and
related activities around Africa with positive impacts on transparency,
accountability and overall governance.
