On 24 March 2017, Nature+ASBL officially joined the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP). Nature+ ASBL has submitted the required documents and adheres to the principles of the CBFP members’ cooperation framework to promote the conservation and sustainable management of forest ecosystems in Central Africa. It undertakes to respect and apply the principles in its interventions, and to engage actively on various fronts in the CBFP’s operations.

The COMIFAC Executive Secretariat has recently set up an online platform for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the Convergence Plan and other sub-regional initiatives. The platform dubbed “SUIVI CONVERGENCE” will serve as one in a range of tools that make up COMIFAC’s monitoring and evaluation mechanism.


Oyo (400 km north Brazzaville, Republic of Congo) -  9 March 2017:   Ministers of Environment and of Foreign affairs of twelve States launched a “Blue Fund” for the Congo Basin following a ceremony chaired by their Excellencies Sassou Nguesso, assisted by his Togolese peer, Faure Gnassingbé. Former Heads of State, Olusegun Obasandjo of Nigeria, and Alpha Omar Konaré of Mali also attended this event.

Washington, D.C. (February 24, 2017) — Following a highly productive and successful showing at the COP22 international climate conference in Morocco, the Adaptation Fund will enter its 29th Board meeting in March with rising momentum.

On Thursday, 16 February 2017, the preparatory meeting for The Ocean Conference: Our Oceans, Our Future: Partnering for the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14 (Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development) continued with the discussion on the call for action, which is to be the intergovernmentally-agreed outcome of the Conference.
 

The briefing reflects on progress after a decade of implementation including looking at multi stakeholder participation, increased transparency and reduced illegal deforestation. It suggests concrete ways to address challenges and step up current efforts including increased enforcement of just laws, enhanced policy coherence, and inclusive decision making.

At the fourteenth meeting, the GCF Board requested the Secretariat to develop a request for proposals (RFP) for REDD+ results-based payments (RBP), including guidance consistent with the Warsaw Framework for REDD+ and other REDD+ decisions under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).


Forests are nature’s powerhouse! They are the largest source of renewable energy in the world, providing people with wood fuel to heat homes, cook meals and boil water. But they also energize people in other ways – for example by providing forest foods like berries and mushrooms – or even recharging people’s spirits by providing a place for recreation, peace and inspiration.

The present study focuses on forest incomes of households around forest concessions in Cameroon. The contributions of forest income to the economy and well-being of households were measured and the explanatory factors for heterogeneity determined. We used the Gini index to evaluate the distribution of household forest incomes and their influence on well-being and income inequality amongst forest-dependent households.

Fern has opened a tender for individuals and organisations to produce a briefing paper on strengthing forest governance in African Nationally Determined Contributions to the Paris Agreement. 20 days of full time work carried out over a 6 week period. The draft report will be available by July 2017. The final report will be published in September 2017.
The Programme Officer will assist in the screening of applications for eligibility, matching individual applications to expert reviewers, collating and presenting the results of the external review for use and further review by the SOS Technical Advisory Group. Working in collaboration with the SOS Coordinator the Programme Officer will review a selection of submitted reports according to a predefined checklist and against the objectives, results and milestones described in the project proposal.
The bushmeat specialist will serve as the technical lead to the WCS urban bushmeat team, leading the design of research with partners, supervising field research, co-designing and tracking the program’s monitoring and evaluation work, providing advice to country programs on bushmeat related issues, and reporting and writing up program results for scientific and lay audiences.


World Resources Institute's Africa Forest Team seeks a GIS RS technical advisor to support its efforts to lead multi-sectoral, data-driven, and inclusive land use planning processes and management of natural resources in the Congo Basin, especially focusing in the DRC. WRI's approach focuses on developing information and decision-support tools as a basis for informing land use planning and allocation of rights to natural resources, as well as supporting multi-stakeholder processes to put in place the necessary legal and institutional framework for land use planning and allocation of natural resources.
